Improving Your Game

Professional Go Players from around the world will be available throughout the week for attendees to take advantage of in improving their game. Scheduled activities will include:

  • Game reviews:
    • Bring your game record from your US Open games to a review session, and have a professional provide comments and suggestions on your play.
  • Lectures:
    • Lectures on a variety of topics covering all levels of play will be scheduled throughout the week. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the topics covered and how they can be applied to your games.
  • Simuls:
    • Pro players will play simuls against groups of players. Sign-up sheets will be available each day to get a seat at the table. Here is your chance to play against a professional and and learn from the experience.
  • Workshops:
    • Three workshops for beginners and double-digit kyu players will be held. Shawn Ray (Clossius will lead two workshops, focusing on the early opening and on basic corner joseki.  Gabe Schwartz’s workshop focuses on when to sacrifice stones. Details can be found on Yapp under Sessions > Special Events. The Congress team is working to develop additional workshops, so check back here later for more information.

Aside from the scheduled activities above, pros are typically found throughout the Congress and are happy to answer any questions you may have.
