Redmond Cup Finals

Introduction:  In its 33rd year, the Redmond Cup is the longest running youth tournament in North America, and is the premier tournament for the strongest youth players across the continent.

Many former Redmond Cup champions have gone on to become majors stars of the US Go scene, including seven of the ten current  North American Professionals. Other champions and competitors have gone on to represent North America in international tournaments and/or become Go organizers in their communities.

The Redmond Cup consists of two divisions: Redmond Cup Junior (under 13 years old) and Redmond Cup Senior (13-17 years old). Preliminaries are played online between March and June, with the top two finishers in each division competing in a best-of-3 Finals at the US Go Congress.

Location:  Strong Players Room (Old Meeting House)

When:  There are three rounds starting at 3pm on Sunday (July 26), Monday (July 27), and Thursday (July 30). The third round (July 30) is only played if the score is 1-1 after Round 2.

EligibilityThis is by invitation only, and consists of the tournaments’ finalists.

Rules:  AGA rules will be used.

Time Controls:  Byo-yomi time controls will be used, with 60 minutes per player plus five 30 second byo-yomi.

Handicaps:  All games are even (no handicaps).

Prizes:  The top two finishers in the Junior and Senior divisions are awarded a free trip to the US Go Congress and a cash prize, courtesy of the American Go Foundation.
